The experience
You get picked up at Port Denarau Marina at 8:30am and head into Nadi with a live English-speaking guide. The tour opens at the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple, where you walk through rooms painted with colorful depictions of Hindu gods and goddesses while the guide explains the history and beliefs behind them. From there you move to the local produce market to see the fruits, vegetables and root crops that feed Fiji, then browse the handicraft market for locally made artifacts and souvenirs.
The Gardens of Sleeping Giant are the heart of the afternoon. The orchid collection (over 30 to 40 varieties of Asian orchids and Cattleya hybrids) was once the private collection of American actor Raymond Burr. You can either take a guided walk or wander on your own along the boardwalk that runs through the landscaped grounds, passing lily ponds and trees that shade the pathways. After the gardens, there's a shopping stop in Nadi Town where you can explore the streets, meet locals, and pick up duty-free goods before heading back to Port Denarau.
The tour wraps up with dropoff at the marina, timed so you're back before your ship departs. Bottled water is provided throughout the day. Lunch and any shopping purchases are on your own.

Is this one for you? This is a shared tour with a guide leading the group through each stop, which keeps the pace steady and the cost low for cruise passengers with a short window ashore. If you want to move at your own speed once you reach the gardens, you can (the guide doesn't require you to stay together there), but the temple and market visits are guided stops.
