The Sigatoka River jet boat safari departs from town after you're picked up from your hotel and transported by air-conditioned coach to the launch point. You'll board the jet boat and travel 4.5 hours upriver, moving fast enough to cover distance but slow enough to take in the river landscape and the villages along it. The boat itself is built for this work — it's the original jet boat design Fiji introduced for river safaris, designed to navigate shallow water and tight turns that a standard boat cannot manage.
The village visit is the heart of the experience. You'll be greeted with a welcoming ceremony by residents, then have time to walk around, talk to people, and see how life unfolds in a settlement that exists largely outside the tourist circuit. This is not a staged performance; the interaction is genuine, and the ceremony is how the village actually welcomes visitors. Lunch is served during the day, and bottled water is provided throughout.
