The Experience

A surfboard, a wetsuit and a coach who watches you catch waves. That's the core of this lesson. The Escape Surf School runs small groups of up to four so everyone gets real attention in the water. If you're starting out, the coach holds the tail of the board while you learn to stand, then builds from there. If you've surfed before, the focus shifts to paddling technique, turning and reading the ocean so you catch more waves and ride them with control.

The first twenty minutes happen on the beach: the coach walks through the skills and safety you'll need, then you're in the water for the rest of the two hours with hands-on guidance. Wetsuits, boots and gloves (in colder months) are all there waiting for you. After the lesson, hot showers and changing rooms at the school mean you can rinse off and get dry before you leave. Weather and surf conditions decide whether the lesson runs. If the conditions aren't right, you can pick another date or get your money back. Children need to be able to swim at least 50 metres and must have an adult with them.
