An official 90-minute walking tour of Canterbury led by a fully qualified Green Badge guide, covering medieval lanes, the Cathedral Precincts and grounds, and the stories of pilgrims, royals and historical figures who shaped the city. The Experience

Canterbury Tourist Guides Ltd has run official tours since 1948, and this is the only walking tour in the city that includes access to the Cathedral Precincts. Your guide holds a Green Badge—the accreditation awarded by the Institute of Tourist Guiding after completing formal training and examination—and will lead you through the medieval streets where the city's often violent past emerges in the lanes themselves. You'll see the largest medieval gateway in England, walk the Cathedral grounds, and hear the stories of Becket, Chaucer, Marlowe, and the kings and queens who passed through Canterbury's gates.

The 90-minute route moves through the central city on foot, taking in pilgrims and plague, peasants' revolts and the colourful characters who lived here or visited. Children receive an activity sheet and history trail to follow along. The tour departs daily at 11am; from April through October an additional 2pm departure runs, plus extra tours on seasonal holidays. All surfaces are wheelchair accessible, and service animals are welcome; well-behaved dogs on short leads can join at the guide's discretion if you contact the operator in advance.

Private group tours for up to 10 people are available by advance booking at a fixed rate of £160. Guests with a disability receive a concessionary rate, and carers accompanying them enter free—book the concessionary place online and let the operator know a carer will be joining you.
