The experience
You start with pickup from Cairo by private car and drive to Bahariya Oasis, where you switch to a 4x4 jeep for the desert itself. The first day moves through the Black Desert, a stretch of dark volcanic rock and hills, then into a local Bedouin village for lunch. From there you visit the natural sulfur hot springs, pass Crystal Mountain and Agabat Valley, and enter White Desert National Park as the light drops. You reach the camping area, watch the sunset, and spend the evening by the campfire with your guide and the Bedouin traditions he grew up with.
The night is in a tent with a sleeping bag and mattress on the ground. You wake at the campsite for breakfast in the White Desert itself, then spend the morning on foot and by jeep visiting Mushroom Rock, Chicken Rock and other rock formations that give the White Desert its name: pale limestone shapes rising from the sand. By early afternoon you're back in the jeep heading toward Bahariya Oasis, where you switch to the private car for the drive back to Cairo and drop-off.
The guide is a photographer and storyteller who was born and raised in Bahariya Oasis, so the experience centers on his connection to the place rather than a standard itinerary. Lunch, dinner and breakfast are all included, along with the entrance fees to the national park, the jeep, the tent and all camping gear. The only things you bring are personal items and a willingness to sleep in the desert.
