The experience
The day starts at the Grand Egyptian Museum, where you walk up the Grand Staircase lined with colossal pharaoh statues and enter galleries displaying thousands of artifacts, many shown for the first time. Your guide shares the stories behind the pieces (the history, the art, the culture) as you move through rooms holding treasures from King Tutankhamun's tomb, each one preserved and presented with modern interactive displays. This is not a quick pass through. The museum itself is the largest and most advanced archaeological museum in the world, and the guide's knowledge is what turns the objects into a narrative.
From the museum, you travel to Giza to see the three pyramids in person. The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest and oldest, with the option to enter its chambers if you choose. The Pyramid of Khafre still wears some of its original limestone casing at the top, making it appear taller than it is. The Pyramid of Menkaure, built of granite and limestone, is the smallest of the three. Between them stands the Great Sphinx, a massive statue with a lion's body and a human head, and your guide will unravel the mysteries and theories surrounding it. You'll have time to photograph all three pyramids together: the angle that shows them aligned.
After the monuments, you sit down to a relaxing traditional Egyptian lunch at one of the area's best restaurants, choosing from local specialties like fol, falafel sandwiches or koshary. The tour ends with drop-off at Port Said port or your hotel, depending on where you're staying.
