The experience
Alexandria layers five thousand years into a single afternoon, and a private guide who knows the city changes what you actually see. Your Egyptologist is not reading from a script. They answer questions, adjust the route if something catches your interest, and explain the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa or Pompey's Pillar in the depth a place that old deserves. No shared buses means no waiting for strangers to board, no schedule that rushes you through a photo stop. You move at your pace, in your own air-conditioned vehicle, with pickup from your Alexandria hotel or directly from the cruise port.
The route covers five sites in six hours: the Catacombs, Pompey's Pillar (a photo stop), the Roman Amphitheater, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and Qaitbay Citadel (exterior photos). Bibliotheca Alexandrina closes on Fridays, but if your visit lands that day, exterior photography still works and the rest of the itinerary runs unchanged. Bottled water is included. Entry fees to each site are paid on-site as you arrive. Cruise passengers get a confirmed return time before all-aboard, and hotel guests are dropped at their door.
The tour comes in four options at checkout: driver and guide with lunch included; driver only; driver and guiding without lunch; or guide, lunch, and entrance tickets bundled. Choose based on whether you want to handle entry fees yourself, whether you'd like a meal arranged, and whether you prefer the guide's full expertise or just the transport and navigation.

Is this one for you?Book the option with guide and entrance tickets if you want the expert explanation and don't want to handle payments at each site; choose driver and guide alone if you prefer to pay entry fees as you go and keep the cost lower; add lunch if your hotel or port time is tight and you'd rather not hunt for a restaurant mid-tour.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 11 years). Children under 6 can't be included in the booking.
Can I book this tour if I'm arriving on a cruise ship?
Yes. Pickup happens directly from Alexandria Port, and your return is timed to your ship's all-aboard time, so the full itinerary fits inside your port call without risk of missing departure.
What exactly is the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa?
The Catacombs are a burial complex carved into rock in the second century, blending Egyptian, Greek, and Roman styles. Your guide explains the chambers and the history as you walk through them, which is the kind of detail a licensed Egyptologist brings that a generic tour does not.
Does the tour include lunch?
Lunch is optional and depends on which option you choose at checkout. Two of the four options include it. The other two do not. You pick at booking.
What if I'm staying at a hotel outside central Alexandria?
Pickup happens from any Alexandria hotel, so location within the city is not a problem. Confirm your hotel address when you book and your guide will collect you from the lobby or entrance.
Are entry fees to the sites included in the price?
Entry fees are not included and are paid on-site at each attraction. Two of the four purchase options bundle entrance tickets. The other two do not. Check which option you're booking to know whether you'll pay at the gate or have tickets arranged in advance.
How many people can fit in the private vehicle?
The vehicle is private to your group, so the size depends on your party. Confirm your group size when booking and the operator will arrange appropriate transport.
