Discover Scuba Diving Marsa Alam: Your first reef dive
Forty minutes from your first breath underwater to swimming past a living coral reef.
Discover Scuba Diving in Marsa Alam is a beginner scuba class where you learn essential skills in calm, shallow water with a certified PADI instructor, then make your first reef dive on the Red Sea. The experience includes all equipment, hotel pickup, and runs about 40 minutes in the water. Children from age 10 are welcome, and instructors speak English, Italian, French, German and several other languages.
The Experience
What does it feel like to breathe underwater for the first time? You start on dry land with a simple briefing: how to breathe through the regulator, how to move, how to signal your instructor if something feels off. Nothing complicated, nothing rushed. Then you wade into the shallow, calm water near the reef and practice a few basic skills: clearing your mask, equalizing pressure in your ears, the small adjustments that let your body feel at home underwater. Your instructor stays right beside you the whole time, watching, correcting, making sure you're comfortable before anything else happens.
Once you're ready, you drift toward the actual reef: the thing you came for. The water is warm, the light filters down in shifting patterns, and suddenly you're floating past corals in colors that don't seem real and fish so bright they catch your eye without you looking for them. You're not fighting the water or fighting gravity. You're just there, suspended, moving slowly through a world that exists a few meters below the surface but feels completely separate from the one you left behind. Your instructor stays with you, pointing out details, making sure you're safe, but mostly letting you experience it.
The whole thing takes about 40 minutes in the water. You get all the equipment (wetsuit, tank, weights, regulator, mask) without having to rent anything separately. Hotel pickup is included, so you don't arrange transport. Coffee, tea, water and a meal are provided before or after, depending on the timing. The dive happens in the Red Sea off Marsa Alam, where the reef system is established and the conditions are gentle enough for someone who has never done this before.

Is this one for you? This works best for small groups or solo travelers who want to try scuba for the first time without committing to a full certification course. The fixed 40-minute structure and shallow-water start make it manageable for nervous beginners, while the actual reef dive gives you the real experience, not just a pool lesson.

What exactly do I learn in the briefing before I get in the water?
The briefing covers how to breathe through the regulator, how to move and control your buoyancy, and how to communicate with hand signals if you need to tell your instructor something. It's designed to be simple and relaxed, not overwhelming. You learn only what you need to feel confident in the shallow water.
Do I need to know how to swim to do this?
The experience is open to beginners aged 10 and up, and the shallow-water practice happens in calm conditions. A moderate level of physical fitness is recommended, but you don't need to be an experienced swimmer. The instructor is with you the entire time.
What happens if I get nervous or uncomfortable underwater?
Your certified PADI instructor stays right beside you throughout the dive. You can signal if you need to slow down, surface, or stop, and the instructor responds immediately. The shallow-water practice is specifically designed to build confidence before you move to the reef.
Is the 40 minutes the whole experience, or just the time in the water?
The 40 minutes is the time you spend underwater: the briefing, the shallow-water practice, and the reef dive. Hotel pickup, the meal, and other logistics happen before or after, so plan for a longer outing overall.
What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring?
All scuba equipment, the diving instructor, hotel pickup, meals, coffee or tea, and bottled water are included. You bring a swimsuit and a towel. The operator provides everything else you need for the dive.
Can children do this, or is it only for adults?
Children are welcome from age 10 and up. The experience is designed for beginners of any age, and the instructor adjusts the pace and depth to match each diver's comfort level.
