The experience
The tour starts in Bahariya Oasis, where your guide meets you for lunch before the jeep heads into the black desert. You'll pass the hot springs, crystal mountains and the dark volcanic landscape that gives the black desert its name. By evening you reach Agabat Valley for your first night camping: a tent, mattress and sleeping bag are set up, and dinner is served in the camp.
Day two begins with breakfast, then the jeep takes you to the white desert's sand dunes. You can try sandboarding on the slopes, explore Big Valley and visit the magic spring. Lunch happens in the desert, followed by time in both the old white desert and the new white desert before a second night of camping and dinner. Throughout both days, soft drinks (water, tea, coffee and cola) are included.
The jeep is a 4x4 built for rough terrain, and your guide speaks English and knows the desert routes and the Bedouin way of moving through it. Pickup is included, meals are provided morning, noon and evening, and you bring only what fits in a bag. The camp handles the rest.

What's the difference between the black desert and the white desert on this tour?
The black desert, visited on day one, is a volcanic landscape of dark rock and mountains near Bahariya Oasis. The white desert, explored on day two, is a vast expanse of white chalk formations and sand dunes where you camp overnight.
Do I need to book the White Desert ticket separately, or is it included?
The White Desert ticket is optional and chosen at checkout. The tour covers the black desert, hot springs and dunes either way. The ticket lets you enter the protected white desert area itself.
What happens if I'm not comfortable sleeping in a tent in the desert?
The accommodation is tent camping with a mattress and sleeping bag provided. If tent camping is not for you, this tour is not the right fit. Look for a desert tour with hotel stays instead.
How much time do I spend actually driving versus camping and exploring on foot?
You drive between camps and to different sites within the desert, but most of each day is spent at the sites themselves: exploring dunes, visiting springs, trying sandboarding and resting in camp. It's not a long-distance road trip.
