Operate quad bikes across the dunes, then watch the desert settle into night

Ride quad bikes through the desert outside Marsa Alam on a 5.5-hour activity combining four vehicles and a Bedouin camp experience. You operate the ATVs yourself across the sand, then transition to a jeep safari, camel ride, and buggy for variety. The evening centers on a traditional dinner under the stars, a live performance, and guided stargazing through a telescope.

The experience

The activity opens with a 4x4 jeep safari across the golden dunes to orient you to the landscape, then moves to the quad bikes, the centerpiece. You ride the ATVs yourself through the sand, feeling the machine respond to the terrain. A dune buggy ride follows for a different kind of thrash, and a camel carries you at a slower pace as the light drops. The sequence is built to shift your speed and vantage point every twenty minutes or so, which keeps the repetition of sand from flattening the day.

The camp sits in a traditional Bedouin tent where you arrive to Bedouin tea and bread. Dinner is grilled meat and local dishes served on the ground under the open sky: no tables, no walls. A live band plays traditional music and dance, varying by the night. After eating, a guide sets up a telescope and walks you through the constellations visible from the Red Sea desert, where the light pollution is low enough that the Milky Way reads as a real thing overhead.

Bottled water travels with you throughout. Air-conditioned transfers handle the ride from your hotel and back. The guide speaks English, German, or Arabic depending on your group. A governmental entrance fee of €5 per person is payable in cash on arrival and is separate from the booking price.

Is this one for you?You operate the quad bikes yourself as part of a shared group led by a guide, so this suits riders who want hands-on control of the machine but prefer not to navigate the desert alone. The five-and-a-half-hour span lets you ride the ATVs, then shift to three other modes of travel and end with dinner and stargazing, so it works for someone who wants variety rather than a single focused activity.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, German and Arabic.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 11 years); Infant (under 3).

Do I operate the quad bikes myself, or does a guide ride them?

You ride the quad bikes yourself through the dunes. The guide leads the group and sets the pace, but each rider controls their own ATV.

What's the camel ride like in this activity?

The camel ride is a slow, gentle passage through the desert landscape timed for late afternoon, as the sun begins to drop. It's a deliberate contrast to the faster vehicles and gives you a moment to absorb the scale of the dunes without engine noise.

Is the stargazing experience hands-on, or do I just watch?

A guide sets up a telescope and teaches you how to use it to find constellations and celestial objects. You look through the scope yourself and learn what you're seeing from someone who knows the night sky above Marsa Alam.

How much time do I spend actually riding the quad bikes?

The quad biking is the core of the activity, but the 5.5-hour day also includes the jeep safari at the start, the buggy ride, the camel ride, dinner, the performance, and stargazing. The ATVs are the main event, not the only one.

What happens if I've never ridden an ATV before?

The activity is suitable for all physical fitness levels. The guide can brief you on the basics before you start, and the pace is set for a mixed group. Riding experience helps, but it's not required.
