The experience

The tour starts with pickup from your Luxor hotel at 6:00 am and heads south by private vehicle to Edfu, about an hour away. There you enter the Temple of Horus, an ancient Egyptian temple on the Nile's west bank that the Greeks called Apollonopolis Magna. Your licensed Egyptologist guide explains the site as you walk through it.

After Edfu, the drive continues to Aswan, where you stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Then you visit Philae Temple, which once stood on an island in the Nile's First Cataract before being relocated to higher ground. The afternoon ends with a felucca sail, a traditional wooden boat, on the Nile itself. From the water you see Kitchener Island, Elephantine Island, local villages and the desert mountains beyond. The boat ride is quiet and unhurried, a contrast to larger cruise ships. Around 5:00 pm you return to your hotel in Luxor, or stay in Aswan if you prefer.

Your guide speaks English and can arrange tours in Spanish, Italian, French or another language on request. Children from age 6 are welcome. All entrance fees, the private vehicle, bottled water and service charges are included in the price. Tips are separate.
