The experience

The tour starts in Quito's historic center at Santo Domingo church, where the domes and roofline give you the shape of the city laid out below. Next is the Basilica of the National Vow, the largest neogothic church in Quito. Climbing the towers costs extra if you want it, but the ground-level visit is included. Then the Teleferico cable car takes you up to 4,100 meters above sea level. On a clear day you see Ecuador's most important volcanoes from up there. The city spreads below with a view most visitors only get from the swing at the top.

The final stop is Mitad del Mundo, the monument marking the equator. The site has the biggest monument on the grounds and a market of local handicrafts.
