The experience

You start at the office in Baños where your guide outfits you with a wetsuit, shoes, helmet and harness, then drives you to the Rio Blanco parking area. A ten-minute walk uphill brings you to the canyon entrance. From there you spend roughly two hours rappelling down waterfalls, moving through the water and navigating the rock formations with the guide's instruction and support. The canyon itself is the route. There is no fixed trail or predetermined sequence, so the guide reads the water level and conditions each day and leads you through accordingly.

After you finish the canyon section, you hike back down the valley to the parking area and return to Baños. The whole experience, from office to return, runs about three hours. Private transportation is included, so you do not arrange your own way to the trailhead. The guides hold international certifications and work in small groups, never more than six, which means you get hands-on instruction and the guide can adjust the pace to your comfort level.

Is this one for you?Three hours is enough to fit canyoning into a free afternoon without eating the whole day, so you can explore Baños town before or after. If you have only a morning or evening free, this will not work. If you want a full-day adventure, ask the guides about combining it with other activities in the area.
