The experience
The lodge sits in the Napo Amazon, and the three days are built around what the region actually holds. Day one starts with a guided walk along the Gran Cacique Route through old-growth rainforest, where you see Ceibo trees and learn which plants the indigenous communities have used for medicine. After lunch you float downstream on tubes, then return for dinner and a 45-minute night walk to watch the jungle come alive after dark. The lodge provides rubber boots and all meals.
Day two takes you by canoe down the Napo River to the Animal Rescue Center, where you can observe woolly monkeys, macaws, anacondas, toucans and other rescued animals. A guide walks you through their conservation work. You stop at a Kichwa family's home to watch a blowgun demonstration and learn to make chicha, the traditional cassava drink, then finish the afternoon spotting caimans at Anaconda Island's lagoon. Lunch is packed and brought with you.
On the final morning after breakfast you work through the chocolate-making process with locally-sourced cacao beans, tasting what you've made before checkout. The tour ends in Tena city, and the operator can arrange shared or private transport to Quito if you need it. You choose whether to book the shared group or go private, and the guides speak English or Spanish.
