Hiking in Punta Cana: 2.5-hour mountain trail with guide
The hike crosses mountain streams and passes through forest thick enough that you walk in shade the whole way.
A guided hike through the Eastern Cordillera in Punta Cana, crossing from Vista Alegre to Anamuya over moderate terrain with mountain views, streams and native flora and fauna. The guide provides water, fresh fruit and photographs throughout; the tour ends at a coffee and cocoa farm where you can see how the crops are grown and buy directly if you want to. Hotel pickup is included, and the guide speaks English, Spanish or French.
The Experience
You're picked up from your hotel and driven to the trailhead in an air-conditioned vehicle. The hike itself runs about 2.5 hours through the Eastern Cordillera, crossing from Vista Alegre to Anamuya. The terrain is moderate — you'll walk between trees and small mountain streams, with gentle slopes rather than steep climbs. An expert guide walks with you the whole way, pointing out the local flora and fauna, and stops to hand out bottled water and fresh fruit as you go.
The landscape doesn't stay the same. You move through forest thick enough that shade covers most of the trail, then open to views of the surrounding mountains. The guide carries a camera and takes photographs along the way so you have images to take home. Hiking poles are provided if you want them, and the guide's live commentary keeps the pace conversational rather than rushed.
At the end of the hike, you visit a working coffee and cocoa farm. You'll see how both crops are grown in this region, and you can buy products directly from the farm if anything interests you. The whole outing — hike, farm visit, transport and guide — takes about four hours from pickup to drop-off.

What's the hike actually like in terms of difficulty?
The Eastern Cordillera trail has moderate slopes and runs 2.5 hours, so it's steady walking rather than strenuous climbing. You'll cross small mountain streams and move through forest, but the pace is set by the guide and you stop for water and fruit along the way.
Do I need my own hiking boots, or is anything provided?
Hiking poles are provided. You should wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots of your own, and the guide will advise on what to bring when you book.
What happens at the coffee and cocoa farm at the end?
The farm is a working operation where you can see how coffee and cocoa are grown in the Dominican Republic. You're free to buy products directly from the farm if you want to, but there's no obligation — it's included in the tour so you can see the process.
Is hotel pickup really included, or do I need to meet somewhere?
Hotel pickup is included in Punta Cana. An air-conditioned vehicle collects you and brings you back after the tour ends, so you don't need to arrange your own transport to the trailhead.
What languages does the guide speak?
The guide is available in English, Spanish or French. You'll choose your language when you book.
Can children come on this hike?
Children are welcome from age 12 and up. The moderate terrain and 2.5-hour hike work for kids who are comfortable with that level of walking, and the guide adjusts the pace as needed.
