The experience

You travel to the trailhead in an air-conditioned vehicle. The hike itself takes about 2.5 hours, crossing the Eastern Cordillera on the way from Vista Alegre to Anamuya. You'll walk among trees and small mountain streams on moderate slopes, and the hike calls for a moderate level of fitness. An expert guide walks with you the whole way, pointing out the local flora and fauna, and stops to hand out bottled water and fresh fruit as you go.

The landscape doesn't stay the same. You take in different views of the surrounding mountains as you go, along with the plants and wildlife of the area. The guide carries a camera and takes photographs along the way so you have images to take home. Hiking poles are provided if you want them, and the guide also gives live commentary during the ride.

At the end of the hike, you visit a working coffee and cocoa farm. You'll see how both crops are grown in this region.
