The experience
The ride starts in tropical forest on the way to El Limón Waterfall. The trail is short and the pace is built for riders of any experience level. Once you reach the end of the rideable path, you leave the horses and walk the remaining distance on foot, descending stairs to the base of the waterfall where the water pools deep enough to swim. The waterfall drops into a natural basin surrounded by forest, and the water is cold and clear.
After the waterfall, the day shifts to the water. You boat out to Cayo Levantado, a small island with white sand and turquoise shallows. Lunch is a typical Dominican meal served on the beach while you look out at the water. The island is small enough to walk around, and the afternoon gives you time to swim or rest before the return to your hotel.
The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and two additional languages, so the commentary works for most groups. Children from age one travel with the group. Transport picks you up from your hotel and brings you back at the end of the day, so you do not arrange separate rides to the trailhead or the dock.
Is this one for you?The guide speaks five languages, so if you travel with a group that shares one of them, the commentary reaches everyone. Children from age one can join, making this a rare full-day option for families with very young kids.
