Half Day Big Game Fishing Charter: Puerto Plata Private Boat
Land a marlin or mahi-mahi offshore, then release it back to the sea
A half-day private fishing charter operates from Puerto Plata and nearby ports (Sosua, Cabarete, Amber Cove) aboard a 34-foot twin-engine boat. You fish offshore for billfish and mahi-mahi with the captain and crew handling the boat while you work the rod. All tackle, bait and safety gear come with the booking. Hotel or cruise ship pickup is included, and the crew practices catch-and-release on billfish so the fish survive the fight.

The experience
You're picked up from your hotel or cruise terminal and driven to the dock, where the captain briefs you on the boat and the day's conditions. The Trojan is a 34-foot open fishing boat with twin Yanmar engines: built for the offshore swells and the fish that live in them. Once you leave the harbor, the crew sets the lines and positions the boat where the big game species run. You hold the rod, feel the weight, and work the fish. The crew handles the engine, the net and the gaff. A half-day trip runs four hours from pickup to return, so the whole day stays free for the rest of your plans.
Billfish (marlin and sailfish) are released alive, so the fight is the whole point. Mahi-mahi and other species you keep are cleaned and yours to take back or have prepared at a local restaurant. Snacks, fresh fruit, soft drinks, beer and rum come aboard. The crew knows the offshore grounds and the seasonal patterns, so they position the boat where the bite is strongest. Groups run from one person to eight, so a solo traveler, a couple or a full family books the same boat at the same price per group.
The fishing license is an additional 50 USD per group, paid at checkout. Pickup happens at any time that suits your schedule (early morning, midday or afternoon), so you fit the charter around the rest of your itinerary. The boat is wheelchair accessible, and children travel free as long as an adult is aboard.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French and German.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What kind of fish will I have a chance to catch on this charter?
The boat targets billfish (marlin and sailfish) and mahi-mahi in the offshore waters north of Puerto Plata. Billfish are released alive after the fight. Mahi-mahi and other species can be kept.
Do I need fishing experience to book this charter?
No. The captain and crew handle the boat, set the lines and manage the tackle. You hold the rod and work the fish. They do the rest. First-time anglers are welcome.
How many people can fish at once on the boat?
The 34-foot Trojan takes groups of one to eight people. Everyone fishes from the same boat, and the price is per group, not per person, so a solo angler and a group of eight pay the same rate for their group size.
What's included in the half-day charter price?
Hotel or cruise terminal pickup and return, all fishing gear and bait, snacks, fresh fruit, soft drinks, beer and rum. The fishing license (50 USD per group) is separate and added at checkout.
Can I book a pickup time that works for my schedule?
Yes. The charter operates at any hour, so you choose the departure time that fits your day. Pickup happens from your hotel, resort or cruise ship terminal in Puerto Plata, Sosua, Cabarete or Amber Cove.
