This is a guided hike and swim tour of Damajagua Waterfalls departing from Amber Cove or Taino Bay cruise ports, covering seven waterfall levels with hiking, swimming and jumping in freshwater pools. Round-trip transport from your port, a guide fluent in English or Spanish, lunch at a Dominican buffet, life jackets and helmets are all included; the tour runs 4 to 5 hours and suits children from age 8 onward with at least moderate fitness. Water shoes are recommended and can be rented on the day.

The Experience

Seven levels of waterfalls means seven chances to swim and jump—each one a pool fed by the one above it, each one deeper into the rain forest. A guide meets you at the gate of Amber Cove (left side of the highway) or outside gate 5 at Taino Bay, and from there the transport and the route are arranged; you walk the forest floor, wade through the water, and the guide talks through the plants and animals you pass. The pools stay cool year-round, fed by fresh water that never touches salt.

After the hike and the swimming comes lunch at a local Dominican buffet—the kind of meal that refuels you after a morning in the water. Life jackets and helmets come with the tour, and water shoes are recommended; if you don't have them, they're available to rent. The whole day—transport, guide, entry, lunch and the gear—runs between four and five hours, which means you're back at the port with time before the ship departs.

Groups stay under fifteen people; if your party is larger, a second group books separately but stays together on the same tour. Children from age 8 can go, though infants need to sit on an adult's lap. The guide speaks English or Spanish, so the narration about the forest and the waterfalls comes in whichever language works for your group.
