The Experience
You start from your Prague hotel and travel by train to Kutná Hora—about an hour each way. The day opens at the Cistercian abbey and its Cathedral of Assumption of Our Lady and Saint John the Baptist, the former largest monastery of its kind in Central Europe. A few steps away sits the Sedlec Ossuary, a 14th-century cemetery church where the bones of plague victims and the dead from religious wars were arranged into chandeliers, crosses and other art pieces. Your guide explains the history behind each arrangement and how the ossuary came to exist.
After the ossuary, you head to the city center for an hour-long lunch break at a traditional Czech restaurant (your choice of what to order). Then comes the wine tasting in the cellars beneath the former monastery of St. Ursula. A sommelier walks you through the winemaking process—the winery follows strict biodynamic methods and holds the only DEMETER certificate in the Czech Republic. You taste 8 wine samples paired with local cheese and ham, learning why Czech wines once ranked among Europe's best.
The final stop is St. Barbara's Cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece that shows the evolution of the style across centuries. From there, a bus takes you back to the train station for the return journey to Prague. The whole day runs about 10 hours, with your guide and all entrance fees, train and bus tickets already arranged.

What is the Sedlec Ossuary and why is it in Kutná Hora?
The Sedlec Ossuary is a cemetery church where the bones of thousands of plague victims and those killed in religious wars were arranged into decorative art—chandeliers, crosses, coats of arms and other pieces—beginning in the 14th century. It sits in Kutná Hora because the town was wealthy enough to support a large monastery and cemetery, and the ossuary became a way to honor the dead in a space too small for traditional burial.
Can I choose what to eat for lunch, or is it set?
Lunch is your own choice at a traditional Czech restaurant in Kutná Hora's city center. You have an hour to eat and decide what you'd like to order.
What kind of wines will I taste, and how many?
You'll taste 8 wine samples from the biodynamic winery beneath St. Ursula monastery, paired with local cheese and ham. The winery is the only one in the Czech Republic with a DEMETER certificate, which certifies strict biodynamic farming and production methods.
How much walking is involved in this tour?
The tour includes moderate walking—through the abbey and cathedral, the ossuary, the city center, and the wine cellars. You'll also travel by train (two hours total) and bus (short rides between stops), so most of the day is either walking at a leisurely pace or sitting.
What time does the tour start and end?
The tour runs about 10 hours total, including travel time. Your guide picks you up from your Prague hotel in the morning and returns you after the evening train ride back from Kutná Hora.
Is the train ride included, or do I need to buy a ticket?
Train and bus tickets are included in the tour price. Your guide handles all transport arrangements, so you don't need to buy separate tickets.
