Step-by-step itinerary

- Sail along Istria west coast
- Pass Savudrija Lighthouse
- Spot dolphins in natural habitat

The experience
The boat leaves Umag and heads north along the Istrian coast toward Savudrija, where the lighthouse completed in 1818 still stands: the first in the Adriatic to run on coal gas and the oldest still in operation. You'll have time on deck to watch for dolphins moving through the water. They are not always present, but the crew knows where to look. The modern boat has restrooms, WiFi, bottled water and both covered and open-air seating, so you can choose where to spend the two hours depending on the weather and how much sun you want.
As the light changes, you'll raise a glass of wine on board and watch the sky shift through the colors of dusk. The route passes close enough to Savudrija village and its surrounding peninsula that you can see the settlement itself, a former fishing village now a holiday center on the northern tip of Istria. If conditions allow, the boat may sail far enough north to show views toward Piran, the medieval Slovenian resort town across the water.
