Dolphins hunting the nets as fishermen pull them in at dawn

A small speedboat tour (max 10 people) departs Rovinj before sunrise to watch dolphins feed on fish pulled from the sea by working fishing boats. The skipper explains dolphin behavior and fishing operations while the sun rises behind the hills. The boat returns past the old town viewed from the water. If no dolphins appear, you rejoin the next tour free.

The experience

The boat leaves early enough to reach the fishing grounds a few miles offshore while the fleet is still pulling nets. Twenty to thirty minutes of navigation gets you there, and that's when the dolphins arrive: drawn by the volume of fish, they circle the nets in numbers larger than most other tours see. You watch them jump and pass close to the boat, sometimes directly underneath it, while the skipper describes what they're doing and how the fishing operation works. Tunas and seagulls arrive too, turning the moment into a working marine ecosystem rather than a staged viewing.

The engine cuts when the boat draws near the dolphins, keeping the approach respectful and letting you hear the water and the activity around the nets. The whole experience runs roughly 45 to 60 minutes before the boat heads back toward Rovinj. On the return, you see the old town's stone buildings and harbor from the sea: a perspective most visitors miss. Bottled water, soft drinks and insurance are included. The tour operates with a live guide who speaks English or Italian.
