The Experience

Pulling the helmet over my hair (never my best look), I tried to act like I’d done this before — but our guide, Luka, just grinned and said everyone wobbles at first. The Segways lined up along the edge of Split’s old stone square looked almost futuristic against all that Roman history. We zipped off past the National Theater, Luka pointing out where locals gather for coffee in the mornings — apparently it’s a ritual here, and honestly, I could smell fresh espresso drifting from somewhere. My hands were sweating a bit on the handles, but after a minute or two it felt less like riding a machine and more like floating.

We rolled up to Diocletian’s Palace — not just some ruins, but this living maze where laundry hangs above ancient columns and kids dart between tourists. Luka told us about the emperor who built it (he made it sound like gossip), then let us pause long enough for me to notice how cool the marble felt under my palm. There was music echoing from inside somewhere — maybe a busker or just someone singing for themselves. I didn’t expect to feel so much energy in an old place.

The climb toward Marjan hill was easier than I’d guessed; Segways do most of the work if you trust them. Pine needles crackled under our wheels when we stopped for a view over Split — red rooftops tumbling down to that blue Adriatic line. Someone in our group tried to take a selfie and nearly lost their balance, which got all of us laughing (including Luka). Sunlight flickered through the trees and for a second I forgot we were even on a tour at all — just people looking out over their city together. I still think about that breeze up there.

What’s included
