The experience
Five to six hours takes you through Pula's layered history, starting at the Amphitheater: the largest and best-preserved Roman arena in Croatia, built in the first century under Emperor Vespasian to hold 20,000 spectators. From there the guide walks you past the city walls and Hercules Gate, the Temple of Augustus on the Forum (built between 2 BC and 14 AD), the Small Roman Theater carved into the eastern slope, and the Maria Formosa Church, a 6th-century basilica that survives now as a single Greek-cross chapel. The route threads through Pula's old town, mixing the monumental with the everyday: the market, the Sergius Arch, the streets where these structures still stand.
After the city, transfer takes you to Oio Vivo's olive grove for a guided tasting in their modern room. You'll sample several oils, learn how to identify the aromas and flavors that separate top-quality extra virgin from industrial production, and taste local Istrian delicacies alongside them. The tasting ends with a walk through the working grove itself, so you see where the olives come from.
The guide speaks English, Italian or Croatian and is included throughout. Transfer, the Amphitheater entrance ticket, a bottle of water and the tasting are all part of the booking. The tour runs for groups of at least four people.
