The experience
The day starts with horseback riding through the foothills of Rincon de la Vieja, climbing toward views of the surrounding landscape while you watch for deer, armadillos, raccoons, anteaters and tropical birds. From there you move into the canopy tour: 11 platforms strung across the forest, crossing over the Tizate River. The zipline section is what sets this apart from a standard nature walk. You're moving through the canopy rather than below it, and the river crossing is part of the route itself.
The middle of the day shifts to cultural stops. At a traditional trapiche, you'll see how sugar cane, corn and other crops are processed the old way, with animals doing the work. You can taste Costa Rican food made fresh there. The coffee field visit follows the same logic, not a museum, but a working place where you see how it's actually done. Then comes the waterslide: a 400-meter run straight down into a pool. After that intensity, the hanging bridges offer a slower pace through the canopy at different levels, and the day ends in the volcanic hot springs and mud baths, where the mineral-rich water is warm year-round.
Because this is a private tour, your guide adjusts the order and timing based on your group's energy and interests. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, as is lunch. The operator notes that children must be accompanied by two adults, and a minimum of four people is required per booking. If you're a smaller group, there's a separate rate for two or three passengers.
