Step-by-step itinerary
Tortuguero National Park walk
- Meet bilingual naturalist guide
- Observe flora and fauna
- Learn park's natural history
The experience
Tortuguero National Park is a maze of waterways, dense forest and wildlife, and most of it looks the same to someone walking alone. A certified naturalist guide changes that. For two hours, you move through the park while the guide points out what lives there, how it survives, and why the ecosystem works the way it does. You get binoculars so you can actually see what the guide is directing you toward, ponchos and rubber boots so the wet forest does not stop you, and a running explanation of everything from the canopy layers to the animals that hunt at night.
The guide is bilingual in English and Spanish, certified by Costa Rica's Institute of Tourism. You learn the natural history of the park itself (how it formed, what it protects, what the conservation challenges are) not just a list of animals. This is not a boat tour or a hike to a single viewpoint. It is a walk through the actual forest where the guide reads the environment for you.
What’s included
- Bilingual guide certified by Costa Rica's Institute of Tourism.
- binoculars for wildlife viewing.
- ponchos and rubber boots if needed.
- two hours of guided instruction on the park's flora, fauna and natural history.
