Step-by-step itinerary
Hiking, Coffee, Lunch, and Waterfall
- Hike to see wildlife and butterflies
- Learn coffee and chocolate process
- Enjoy traditional lunch surrounded by butterflies
- Hike to waterfall and swim
The experience
The day starts with a leisurely hike through the tropical rainforest where you watch for two types of sloths, colored frogs, exotic birds, and butterflies. The pace is soft (no scrambling or technical terrain), so the focus stays on spotting wildlife and moving through the biodiversity of the Guanacaste Mountain Range. You'll pass through a butterfly garden as part of the walk.
At the private plantation, you learn the coffee process from fruit to cup, then make your own coffee by hand. The guide walks you through chocolate production in the same artisanal way, showing how it moves from raw material to finished product. Both are hands-on: you're not watching a demonstration, you're doing the work. A traditional lunch follows in a natural setting, still surrounded by butterflies, to refuel before the final leg.
The tour ends at Llanos de Cortés Waterfall, a short hike away. You can swim in the pool beneath it and rest before the drive back to Playa Flamingo. Roundtrip air-conditioned transportation, all taxes and fees, hydration, and a souvenir market visit are included. The guide is certified and speaks English and Spanish.
