The experience
The tour starts with round-trip pickup from your accommodation in an air-conditioned vehicle, then heads into the rainforest with a naturalist guide and binoculars. The guide knows where to find sloths, toucans, butterflies, frogs and monkeys: animals that are easy to miss without someone who knows the forest. Your first stop is Llanos Del Cortes waterfall, a natural pool where swimming is allowed. Most travelers spend time in the water before moving on.
After the waterfall, the route heads toward Bijagua, the area where sloths live. Before spotting them, you stop for lunch: a casado, the traditional Costa Rican plate of rice, beans, fried chicken or cheese, beef or pork, fried plantains and salad. Just after lunch comes a visit to a local coffee and chocolate presentation place, where guides explain how both are grown and processed in Costa Rica. The tour returns to your hotel by 4 p.m.
Binoculars are provided to help you spot wildlife, and the guide speaks both English and Spanish. The itinerary is set, so you know the day's rhythm in advance (waterfall swim, lunch, then the farm visits), and there is no need to arrange your own transportation or plan stops.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (11 to 17 years); Child (7 to 10 years); Infant (under 7): free.
What animals will I actually see on this rainforest walk?
Sloths, toucans, monkeys, frogs and butterflies are the residents the guide looks for, and the operator states a 100% chance of spotting sloths and toucans. Seeing them depends on the forest being active when you walk, which is why a naturalist guide and binoculars make the difference.

Yes, swimming is allowed at the waterfall, and it is the first major stop after leaving your hotel. Bring a change of clothes or a swimsuit under your tour clothes so you can dry off before lunch.
What is included in the Costa Rican lunch?
Lunch is a casado, the traditional plate: rice, beans, fried plantains, salad, and your choice of fried chicken, cheese, beef or pork. It is served in Bijagua before the coffee and chocolate farm visit.
What time does the tour leave and return?
The tour departs at 8 a.m. and returns at 4 p.m., making it a full 8-hour day. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included in the transportation.
