The experience

Tamarindo has consistent beginner-friendly waves and a postcard-quality beach where learning to surf is straightforward. Your instructor meets you at the surf club on the beach, gets you a locker for your things, and hands you a rash guard before the lesson starts. The first part happens on land: you learn the theory of paddling, popping up, board position, stance and safety, then practice the pop-up motion on the board itself so your body knows the move before you hit the water.

Once you're ready, you and your instructor head out to ride real waves. The guide stays with you the whole time, helping you improve from wave to wave and making sure you're having fun. A single two-hour lesson is enough to get you standing on the board and riding. If you want to build the skill further, you can book a 3-day mini course or a full 5-day course instead.

You choose whether to take a private lesson, a group session, or one of the longer courses at checkout. All packages include the certified instructor, your surfboard, rash guard, and all taxes and fees. The beach is accessible by public transportation if you don't have a car.
