The Experience

Two to three hours on the Tempisque River puts you in front of the animals at the times they move. White-faced capuchins come down from the trees to drink at the water's edge; howler monkeys shake branches as a territorial call that carries across the canopy. Herons and egrets line both banks, and crocodiles bask on the muddy shallows—the river's top predator, visible from a distance that keeps the boat safe.
