The experience
You arrive in Watsi after driving from Cocles through the Caribbean lowlands. The tour opens at an indigenous family's property, where the guide walks you through their daily life: the medicinal plants they grow and use on skin, the hunting tools and clothing made from natural fibers, and the worldview kept alive in Casa Usure, the sacred house. This is not a museum stop. You are standing in a living space where the Bribri practice what their ancestors did.
The cocoa process is the core of the day. You work alongside indigenous women to make chocolate from scratch, grinding the beans by hand the way it has been done here for centuries. Afterward, you sit down to a typical lunch served on leaves without cutlery, eating the way the Bribri do. A natural soft drink comes with the meal. The guide explains the poisonous frogs you'll see later at the waterfall: the same species the Bribri used to coat their hunting spears.
After leaving indigenous territory, you head to a waterfall 17 meters high surrounded by forest pools. You can swim, float in the natural basins, and feel the water cascade down your back. The guide brings fresh coconut water for the cool-down. The day ends with a pipe water ceremony in the middle of nature: a closing moment that sits quietly apart from the activity.
