Step-by-step itinerary

Guided night walk in Bijagua rainforest

  • Join guided night tour in Bijagua
  • Walk easy trails through jungle
  • Spot nocturnal wildlife like frogs and sloths
  • Learn about rainforest ecology and animals
  • Listen to jungle sounds at night

The Experience

You arrive at the parking area by the entrance where your guide will be waiting with a sign. The walk starts on easy trails through the private reserve at the foot of the mountains, and the certified local naturalist guide leads you through the rainforest after dark. This is when the nocturnal animals emerge—tree frogs calling from branches, sloths beginning their nightly movements, snakes crossing the path, spiders and insects active in ways you won't see during daylight. The guide carries flashlights for the group and points out what most visitors miss: the animals that only come alive when the sun goes down.

As you walk, the guide explains rainforest ecology and the remarkable adaptations these species use to thrive in darkness—how certain frogs navigate by sound, how sloths move through the canopy at night, why insects behave differently after sunset. You hear the sounds of the jungle at night, a completely different soundscape from the daytime forest. The small-group format means the guide can give personalized attention, answer questions, and help with photography if you've brought a camera.

The whole experience takes 90 minutes, so it fits easily into an afternoon or evening without consuming your whole day. Entrance and flashlights are included; you just need to bring comfortable shoes and arrive at the meeting point on your own.
