The experience

You pick up the ATV at the main location after a 15–25 minute drive from Tamarindo (depending on your hotel). The route climbs into the hills above the North Pacific coast, stopping at viewpoints where the ocean spreads out below. You'll ride through local towns where daily life carries on around you, then descend to secluded beaches where you can swim in the warm Pacific. The guide leads the way and points out wildlife (monkeys, iguanas, birds) that move through the landscape. Bring water. Bottled water is provided.

This is not a guided sightseeing tour where someone else drives. You operate the ATV the whole time, which means the ride demands at least moderate fitness and some comfort with handling the machine on uneven terrain. The operator recommends this for riders with a little more experience, not beginners. Helmets are included. A minimum of two people per booking keeps the group small.

Hotel pickup and drop-off are included if you book the Tamarindo Area option. The base package requires you to meet at the main location. The guide speaks English or Spanish.
