The experience

The day starts with pickup from Cartagena and a drive across the Baru Bridge, which connects the mainland to the island and passes the Corales del Rosario and San Bernardo National Natural Park without stopping. Once you reach Playa Blanca, a five-minute walk brings you to Mambo Beach Club, where the water is shallow enough to wade into and clear enough to see the bottom. The club sits on the only public beach inside the national park, which is why the water stays this way.

You have the full day to swim, snorkel or simply sit in a lounge chair under a hut. Bathrooms, lockers, tables and sun loungers are yours to use at no extra cost, and a welcome drink arrives when you settle in. Lunch runs on a $30,000 COP voucher you redeem from the menu: different options are available depending on what you want to eat. An air-conditioned vehicle and bilingual coordinator handle the logistics, so the day is just you and the water.

If you book the diving option instead of the standard day, you go deeper into the reserve with equipment and instruction included. Either way, travel insurance covers the outing, and the return to Cartagena is part of the package. The eight-hour day gives you time to swim, eat and rest without feeling rushed.

Diving activity: transportation to the dive site, a 20-minute theory class, complete diving equipment, a 15-minute practical dive and a 40-minute coral dive. Mambo + Diving lets you explore the most beautiful coral reefs of the islands by diving and then relax at Mambo Beach Club. Duration is 8 hours. Departure from the beach club is at 4:00 pm, with arrival in Cartagena at about 5:00 to 5:30 pm. Lunch is included in the form of a 30,000 COP voucher, redeemable for one of the Caribbean dishes served by the MAMBO BEACH restaurant. Stops: Pegasus Pier on Baru Island and Mambo Beach Club. Diving takes place in Baru, with transportation in a comfortable air-conditioned bus or van and a standard passenger boat for scuba diving.
