The experience

You start in an air-conditioned vehicle and drive into the Sierra Nevada to Paso del Mango, a river valley surrounded by Colombia's highest mountains. The morning moves through Donama Stones, carvings left by indigenous communities, and into cacao fields where you see how chocolate grows before tasting it. The Reserva Caoba animal and plant sanctuary comes next, a chance to spot wildlife in the protected forest canopy.

Lunch happens mid-day, then the route climbs toward Indio waterfall, which sits at the mountain's upper reaches. The river runs alongside much of the walk, and the jungle closes in as the elevation rises. The waterfall is the day's endpoint. You don't descend and return to the same spot, so the finish point is higher than the start.

Your guide speaks one of five languages and stays with the group throughout. The vehicle is air-conditioned for the driving stretches, and the operator provides bottled water and a meal, so you're not hunting for lunch or carrying supplies. Children from age 4 can join. Infants ride on an adult's lap or in a specialized seat if needed.

Top questions

Live guide in English, Spanish, French, Italian and Russian.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (13 to 17 years); Child (4 to 12 years). Under 4: they can't be included in the booking.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What exactly is the Cacao Experience part of this tour?

The cacao fields visit lets you see how chocolate grows in the Sierra Nevada and taste it as part of the experience, though the tour description doesn't detail a hands-on processing step. It's observation and tasting rather than making chocolate yourself.

How much of the day is spent walking versus riding in the vehicle?

The itinerary doesn't break down walking time separately, but the route covers five main stops (Donama Stones, coffee fields, the animal sanctuary, cacao fields, and the waterfall) connected by vehicle and on foot, spread across 10 hours total.

Can I bring my 3-year-old on this tour?

Children are welcome from age 4 onward. Younger children cannot be booked for this tour.

Does the tour follow the same route back, or is it a loop?

The itinerary ends at Indio waterfall on the mountain, which is higher than the starting point, so the route doesn't return to the same location. You'll need transport back down, which the operator likely arranges but doesn't detail in the description.
