The experience
What makes Minca worth the drive from Santa Marta is that it sits in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, away from the coast and built around coffee farming and forest walks. Your guide and driver pick you up from your hotel in the morning and drive less than an hour to reach the village. La Victoria coffee farm is the first stop: one of the pioneers in Colombian coffee production. You walk the farm, learn how coffee moves from plant to cup, and taste one of the Sierra Nevada's exquisite coffees, which are known for their unique flavor. The farm sits in the cool mountain climate that makes this region's coffee distinct.
After a traditional lunch (not included) in town, you have time to rest before the afternoon's water stops. Pozos Azules and the waterfalls are both natural formations fed by mountain springs, with cold fresh water year-round. You swim and cool off in both places before the drive back to Santa Marta. The whole day runs about eight hours from pickup to drop-off.
Your guide speaks English or Spanish and will contact you the day before to confirm details or answer questions. The tour includes entry to Minca, the coffee farm visit, all risk insurance, and transport from your hotel. Public transportation options exist nearby if you prefer to arrange your own way, and if you're arriving by air or cruise ship, you can select the airport or terminal as your pickup point instead.
