The experience

You arrive in Pereira or Armenia with a free morning or afternoon, and the trek fills it: hotel or airport pickup gets you to the Buenos Aires farm trailhead, where a bilingual Environmental Interpreter meets you to walk the 2.5 kilometers through the sub-Andean forest to Los Frailes Waterfall. The guide talks through the flora, fauna and why the ecosystem matters as you move toward the 70-meter cascade that drops from the Santa Rosa paramillo. The waterfall itself is the destination (you stand in front of it, not passing through), and the walk back follows the same route.

Lunch happens during the trek: cold cuts or sancocho, depending on the day. Medical assistance insurance is included, and the entire service can be customized. You tell the operator what start time and pickup location work for you, and they adjust. The trek runs Friday at 11:00 AM, and Saturday through Sunday (and holidays) at 9:00 AM or 11:00 AM, so you can pick the slot that fits your schedule in the region.

Your booking supports the Yarumo Blanco Community Association, which has run ecotourism here since 2017 as a conservation strategy. The fees go toward environmental education, research, and the local people who maintain the trail and visitor center. Service animals are allowed on the trek.
