The experience
A 4x4 leaves Santa Marta and drives about an hour to Los Linderos, where the walking part begins. From there you head toward Quebrada del Sol on foot, accompanied by a Kogui guide who leads you to Mulkwakungui village. The Mamo (the highest indigenous authority in the community) greets you as you arrive, and from that point the Kogui themselves take over the storytelling, walking you through their daily life, their relationship to the mountain, and the practices they have maintained across generations. This is not a museum or a performance: you are in their space, on their terms, and the guide translates as the community shares what they choose to share.
The walk through the village and surrounding landscape takes roughly three hours. Afterward, you rest and eat a traditional peasant lunch prepared in the Quebrada del Sol area, with time to cool off in the Don Diego River before the drive back to Santa Marta. The tour operates with legal permission from the Kogui communities and is structured as community tourism: meaning the money goes directly to help the people you meet, not to an outside operator. Groups stay small on purpose, which is why this tour runs daily but never feels crowded.
