The hike begins at the rim of the Chicamocha Canyon near a sector called La Mojarra, where you start at about 1,500 meters above sea level: already 1,000 meters above the canyon river below. From there, the trail drops steeply for roughly 300 meters in altitude before the grade flattens and you begin a gradual ascent along the canyon wall. The whole trek takes 2 to 5 hours depending on how fast you move and which route you choose. Because you don't descend all the way to the river, you avoid the intense heat at the canyon floor while still getting the full range of elevation and views.

The hike ends in Los Santos, a small town perched at the canyon's edge with a central park where you can rest after the trek. Private transport gets you to the trailhead and brings you back afterward. Your guide speaks either English or Spanish and stays with you throughout.
