The experience
The tour starts with pickup from your Bucaramanga hotel and a short drive to Mesa de Los Santos, where the cable car station sits. You board one of 38 cable cars that descend 4,000 feet along a 3.9-mile track down to the Chicamocha River at the canyon floor, then climb back up the opposite wall into Panachi. The ride takes about half an hour each way and gives you unobstructed views across the canyon walls. The cable car is the centerpiece. It's what makes the scale of the place visible in a way a viewpoint from above cannot match.
Once you reach Panachi at the top of the far rim, you walk through the park with your guide. The Guane museum is part of the tour. It covers the history of the Guane Indians and the small town that once stood here. The park itself combines historical exhibits with active attractions: an artificial climbing wall, zip lines, an extreme swing, trampolines and a waterpark are all on-site if you want to try them, though they're separate from the guided portion. You'll have time to grab lunch at a café (not included in the tour price) before heading back down the cable car and returning to your hotel.
Your guide speaks both English and Spanish throughout, and the air-conditioned vehicle handles the drive to and from the canyon. The whole experience runs seven to eight hours door-to-door. Infants can ride in a stroller or on an adult's lap. The tour is not recommended for people with cardiovascular concerns, but it suits all other fitness levels.
