The experience

An hour on the water starts with your instructor walking you through the board and the balance point before you launch. The efoil lifts you above the surface as you gain speed, and the mangrove channels narrow around you. This is where the wildlife shows up. Dolphins and turtles move through these waters, and the shallow routes keep you close enough to spot them. Your instructor stays with you the whole time, watching your form and the conditions, so the learning curve compresses into the first few minutes and the rest is pure motion.

After you're back on the dock, you have the rest of the day at Hotel Aura Baru. The day pass opens the beach, the kayaks and the paddleboards to you. The restaurant overlooks the Caribbean and serves lunch if you want it (not included in the price), or you can grab a drink at the beach bar. A shower and fresh water rinse off the salt before you head back to Cartagena. Transport to and from your hotel is included, so the whole thing (the ride, the gear, the access to the beach club) moves without you arranging pieces.

The board itself does the work of staying upright. You steer and throttle. It's not surfing or wakeboarding (there's no wave or rope to read), so the skill floor is lower than those sports, but the sensation is closer to flying than to anything else on water. Twelve is the minimum age, and moderate fitness matters more than prior experience. The video and photos of your session come with the booking.
