The experience
What makes Colombian coffee different? The answer lives in the geography and the hands that tend it. This tour takes you from Cali to a specialized coffee farm in the municipality of Costa Rica, Valle del Cauca, where you'll see the conditions that make the beans valuable and meet the grower who manages them. The round-trip journey takes two hours, and the farm visit itself fills the rest of the eight-hour day.
A bilingual guide walks you through the whole process: the history of coffee in Colombia, how the beans are planted and picked, then washed, dried and roasted before they reach a cup. You'll learn the traditional methods for preparing coffee and practice tasting it properly, so you understand what you're looking for in the flavor. A typical regional meal breaks up the learning, and the farm entrance and all transport by Jeep or Guala (a traditional local vehicle) are included.
The tour is built around the work of the farm itself, so you're not watching a demonstration. You're seeing the actual process and the care that goes into each stage. Bring water, sunscreen and mosquito repellent in a small bag, wear comfortable walking shoes with good grip, and a hat or cap for sun protection. Medical insurance and assistance are included.
