The Experience
First thing I noticed stepping out that evening was how the city air felt—warm, a little sticky, and buzzing with music from every corner. Our guide, Nico, met us right outside a tiny taco stand (the one across from the neon-lit pharmacy). He knew everyone by name. We ducked into our first stop—a low-lit bar where the bartender already had cold beers ready for us. The place smelled like lime and cheap cologne, and you could hear laughter bouncing off the walls.
Nico didn’t just show us bars—he introduced us to regulars, pointed out which stools to grab if you want to chat with locals, and even helped us order mezcal the way locals do (with orange slices and chili salt). Around midnight, we hit a club where the DJ played old-school reggaeton. The crowd was friendly—lots of groups celebrating something or other. Honestly, it felt like being part of the scene instead of just watching it.
