The experience

The tour splits across two days, each with its own focus. Day one takes you by boat to Johnny Cay, a small island seven minutes offshore with beaches and palm trees where local restaurants serve island dishes and cocktails, then to the Aquarium (also called Rose Cay), where the water stays roughly a meter deep and marine life is dense enough that walking feels possible. Day two brings you back to the main island for a chiva ride, a colorful open-sided bus, stopping at Morgan's Cave, the Marine Museum, and El Hoyo Soplador on the way, then finishing with a bay cruise where you swim in the internal bay's seven-color water while a DJ, live dancers and Caribbean music keep the energy high.

Boat transfers to the cays are shared, and boarding runs first come, first served, so arriving on time matters. You'll need to pay the Johnny Cay entrance tax before the boat leaves. The chiva and bay portions include transportation by bus or van around the island, a welcome cocktail during the bay cruise, and a half-hour swim stop. A live guide in English or Spanish leads the group through both days.

Some of the sites on day two (the cave, museum, and blowhole) charge separate entrance fees that you pay directly when you arrive. Public transportation options are available nearby if you want to explore on your own between tour segments.
