The experience
The Unit 731 Museum occupies the actual site where the Japanese army conducted biological and chemical warfare experiments during World War II. Thousands of prisoners, mostly Chinese, died from forced exposure to extreme cold and infectious diseases including plague. The museum, completely remodeled in 2015, now houses an exhibition hall with maps, photographs, detailed records of human and animal experiments, and medical equipment discovered on the property. Your guide will walk you through each exhibit and explain the history behind them, then you'll explore the grounds where some of the original buildings still stand, giving a physical sense of the facility's original structure.
The tour lasts four hours and includes hotel pickup and drop-off in Harbin, entry to the museum, and a private guide who speaks English or Chinese. If your group is more than three people, you'll travel by private vehicle. Smaller groups use taxi transport. The museum also contains examples of classic Japanese-style architecture in the town around it. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather, as you'll be moving between indoor exhibits and outdoor grounds. The museum is closed Mondays, so plan your booking accordingly.

What exactly is Unit 731 and why is the museum there?
