The experience
The tour runs eight to twelve hours depending on your preference and opening hours. Your guide meets you for pickup in an air-conditioned vehicle and starts with a cultural site, museum or city landmark, your choice, where you get an introduction to Xinjiang's history and geography. From there, the day moves between eating and exploring: you'll try Xinjiang noodles, lamb skewers, pilaf, naan, yogurt or seasonal dishes at local food spots, then walk through the International Grand Bazaar to see the architecture, souvenirs, music, spices and dried fruit that fill it.
The afternoon takes you to Urumqi's most popular park, where you see how locals spend their time away from the tourist areas. A second meal break gives you another chance to eat regional food, and the tour ends with tea or a snack while your guide gives you personalized tips for the rest of your Xinjiang journey: what to see next, how to navigate the region, what to expect.
