Dongba script is the pictographic writing system of the Naxi ethnic group (known as "living pictographic writing" because each character is a small picture), and you'll learn to write it yourself using traditional Dongba paper, brushes and ink at Baisha Ancient Town. The calligraphy session teaches you the basic strokes and lets you compose simple characters or blessings to take home, grounding the experience in something you've made rather than watched.

The mountain portion of the day unfolds in two stages. Yunshanping is an open meadow backed by Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and ringed by spruce forest. The Naxi people call it their legendary love holy land, and the walk there is leisurely enough to absorb the scale of the landscape and the quiet. Blue Moon Valley sits lower, with a lakeside boardwalk where the snow mountain reflects in clear water: the kind of place where the light and the stillness make the phone camera feel necessary.
