The experience

Your guide and driver pick you up at your Hangzhou hotel or train station and head first to Feilai Peak, a limestone mountain carved with more than 300 stone Buddha statues over the past thousand years. You move through different caves to see the craftsmanship up close, including the largest "Happy Buddha" statue, which has been laughing since the 10th century. The caves and carvings are the draw here: the guide walks you through what each space represents and why these figures matter to Buddhist practice.

From there you continue to Lingyin Temple, one of China's top 10 Buddhist temples, originally built by an Indian monk and still one of the most active temples with local worshippers. The complex spreads across multiple halls (the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, the Grand Hall, the Medicine Hall) each with its own Buddha statues and murals. You'll see a precious Buddha carved from camphor wood, 500 bronze disciples, and an impressive mural wall at the Guanyin Buddha shrine. Next is Dragon Well Green Tea Village, where the famous green tea is grown and processed.
