The experience

The day starts at your hotel with a 9am pickup and a transfer to Reed Flute Cave, a 500-meter-long cavern 5 kilometers northwest of Guilin's center. The cave holds stalagmites, stalactites, stone pillars and curtains that have formed over 180 million years. The formations are dense enough that the site is also called the Palace of Natural Art. After exploring the cave, you travel to Yangshuo to climb Xianggong Hill on the west bank of the Lijiang River, where the climb rewards you with a bird's-eye view of the river winding through the surrounding peaks.

Next comes lunch in Xingping, followed by a 50-minute bamboo boat cruise on the Li River that passes Nine-Horse Mural Hill before returning to the pier. The afternoon is free to wander Yangshuo West Street, a walking area in the town center. At 6:30pm your guide meets you to head to the Impression Sanjie Liu show, a 70-minute performance on water that ends around 8:40pm. The return transfer to your hotel in Guilin or Yangshuo arrives around 10:30pm.

The tour is built around a single guide and private vehicle for the day, so the pace stays under your control and stops can stretch or compress as the group needs. Entrance fees, the guide and transport are included in the options that carry them.
