The experience

The day starts with a drive from Pucón into the Puesco sector of Villarrica National Park, climbing to where the trek begins near the Argentine border. The walk opens on the shores of Quillelhue Lagoon, where the north face of Lanín Volcano (rising 3,747 meters) frames the view across the water. From there, the path winds through Araucaria forests, an endemic species that grows only between 900 and 1,700 meters above sea level in this region, before reaching Huinfiuca Lagoon on a route designed to let the landscape speak for itself.

After the trek, you return by car to Anita Epulef's Mapuche kitchen for lunch. This is not a restaurant stop. It is a working kitchen where traditional Mapuche cooking happens, and the meal reflects what the region actually eats, not a tourist version of it. The kitchen is the end point of the day, not a rushed add-on.

A certified professional guide leads the walk in English or Spanish and stays with the group throughout. The trek is gentle enough for all fitness levels, though the altitude and the length of the day matter: eight hours from pickup to return. Private transportation means your group does not share the van, and accident insurance is built in. Specialized infant seats are available if you are traveling with very small children.
