The experience
The climb starts in Villarrica National Park at the Puesco sector, where you begin ascending the volcano's slopes on day one. The route takes you through the afternoon and into evening, ending at a camp halfway up the mountain where you'll sleep under the stars and watch the sunset from the ridge. Camping equipment is provided, and a certified guide and technical team stay with the group throughout.
Day two is the push to the summit. From the camp, you continue upward to reach the 3,776-meter peak, where the view opens across both sides of the mountain range: Chile to one side, Argentina to the other. On the descent, the route passes views of Villarrica (the most active volcano in South America), Osorno, Copahue at 3,001 meters, Llaima, Cerro Tronador with its snow-capped peaks, Puntiagudo, and Cerro Quinquilil. The full day of climbing and descent brings you back to lower elevation by afternoon.
Private transportation is included to and from the trailhead. The group stays small with both group and individual technical support on the mountain. A high level of physical fitness is required. The operator does not recommend this trek for travelers with spinal injuries, cardiovascular concerns, or pregnancy. Minimum age is 18. Activity insurance covers the climb.
